Listening to Katie Leigh and the Infantry is like sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch with a glass of whiskey on a warm day. It’s a blend of country and folk with a hint of something you can’t quite put your finger on. Incorporating vocal harmonies from sisters Katie Leigh and Ashley Reynolds with stories from their lives, their music is an honest look into their hearts and minds.
Katie Leigh has been performing since she was a child and in 2001 she gathered a group of musicians together to perform. After several friends came and went, she decided it was time to give the band an identity. In 2007 Katie Leigh and the Infantry was born and has been playing around southern California ever since. From coffee shops to venues like the Casbah and Anthology, Katie Leigh and the Infantry always brings their best to the stage. In 2010 they released their EP, “Beer and Breakups,” and it has been featured on San Diego’s local radio and television stations, and has received positive reviews in San Diego’s CityBeat magazine.
The band’s namesake, Katie Leigh sings lead vocals and plays guitar. The Infantry complete the musical package: Ashley Reynolds sings harmonies, helps with arrangements, plays harmonicas, and occasionally hits a tambourine; Turtle Sanders holds the band steady with creative and solid beats; and Jared McCarter lays down strong and creative bass lines while maintaining a power stance. It’s clear when they play that they love music for its ability to tell a story, inspire a smile or a tear, and bring people together.
