Soul Island Rebels (SIR) formed in October of 2010 to perform a group of shows at The 8x10 Club in Baltimore, Maryland. The band has been playing for enthusiastic crowds ever since. The music is a blend of hard-hitting, soulful rock and blues, with deep-in-the-pocket funky grooves and an energy that keeps crowds dancing all night long.
The unique arrangement of instruments creates a full-textured sound and really brings out the jams. Inspired by the music of New Orleans, a roots-oriented focus lets each musician have their time to shine within the framework of the songs. Led by Jason on vocals and guitar, his singing style has been compared to Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, and Lowell George and comes from a tradition of delta blues and New Orleans funk.
The Rebels are introducing their unique blend of music to a wider audience, with the release of their first CD “Four Quarters”. It is available on iTunes, Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, and also at any of the frequent live shows across the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Upcoming shows are listed on facebook at www.facebook.com/SoulIslandRebels or ReverbNation at www.reverbnation.com/SoulIslandRebels. They continue to attract new fans as their reputation for performing powerful, energetic shows grows.
Live shows are always high energy and not to be missed. SIR has been entertaining fans at festivals, concerts, private parties and clubs all across Maryland where they are based. Their blend of originals and covers keep the party in high gear all night long. On a typical night they will play music of The Grateful Dead, Neville Brothers, Anders Osborne, Herbie Hancock, The Meters and Sublime (among many others). Come to one of their live shows and you will experience firsthand what all of the positive buzz is all about.
