I started playing with the guitar in the early stages up-side down left-handed, and looking like Ernie Douglas of My Three Sons. My first influences, my mom who is an awesome classical nylon string guitarist. My father who is the best classy Jazz Cat…and Jazz bassist in the Jazz world...to include being on several Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Don Ellis, Tommy Flanagan albums, watching him on T.V...Simply amazed me to no end. But most of my style came from my little brother Kenny Marquez, who has 2 gold albums with Allied Artists band Renegade, and in my opinion…is one of the best guitarist in the business today. And my cousin Mark Cervantes… who is the percussionist for the Multi-Platinum Artists “Smash Mouth”. From there I used my family background to set my path on the Hwy.of making music. Grew up in the Los Angeles area, and hung around lots of musicians...like Tracy G…of DIO, Audie Desbrow of Great White, and Tony Matusak of Lizzy Borden, and my older brother Ted De La Rosa…one of the valley’s unique power hitting drummers who will be in my heart forever! Started working as a roadie for LA's Hottest!! Group..."Miraj" ...with Tony Caggiano, Bill Watkins, and Kiki V. Tony former guitarist for Michael Anthony of “Van Halen”, when they were called Mammoth, and Michael's band was called Snake. We did allot of Hollywood. Like The Whisky, the Troubadour and Garzarri's and the Roxy. Seen allot early bands make it...and alot that did not. Worked as a sound man at the old Starwood Rock Club in Hollywood...with acts like...Quiet Riot...Dante Fox (Great White).. Rockkandi… Poison… Yankee Rose..Black Flag..Circle Jerks..and GnR. The scene was getting old. Moved to Minnesota in 90'. The music here was so open for so many acts...totally blew my mind. So started playing with the band" Mystery” for a few years...did a few shows...at the local venues...but was not the right combination. I then put an ad in the local City Pages paper...hooked up with.. drummer Steve Beckman, and Bassist.. Alan Vind, and singer.. Bill Spuda ..The Original FIRE erupted...we played everywhere...went into an Amazing Audio studio...to record our first CD...self titled in 99' and again in 08' to record "Solar"..The past few Years, I've been jamming with different musicians seeking the right people to keep the flames burning... am working to explore a different realm, a new band, and to bring peace and hard rock to the planet... well it is official.....the Flame is burning....and FIRE is back!!!....Michael,Steve and Bill...
and we owe this to REVERBNATION who has let our music spread across the World!!!
So now it's Cities on Flame!!
