Marcio Anderson Farrusco, alternatively known as G baby Da Silva is a recording artist, producer, songwriter, rapper & sound engineer from Luanda, Angola, and was born in March 1992. He was raised in Cape Town, South Africa, with his mom and three elder siblings, making him the youngest in the family. G baby Da Silva started learning to make beats and training his lyrical skills from the age of twelve. This was done at his childhood home in Table View, Cape Town, for the love of the music that he enjoys to listen to. He is driven by inspiration and it was not long before his original style set him apart as a recognisable talent.
G baby Da Silva is part of Volcanic Music Entertainment, an independent hip hop group based in Cape Town comprising of talented local artists and producers. The group is managed by Alex Davison, whom is mentored by Gabi Le Roux (Executive producer at Kaleidosound Music Productions). His elder brother Sidney is also a performing artist with VolcanicENT, and exhibits diversity and a distinct sense of style in his music.
Since 2010, Volcanic has been gaining exposure throughout the City of Cape Town doing live shows and performances, while building up a reputable and quality track record over the years. During this time G baby has released the Heir to the Throne Mixtape, Virus Mixtape, 9/11 Mixtape & various singles online for download.
Outgoing, cheerful personality, down to earth, and not shy to say anything, his first gig was played in Cape Town where he performed ‘I’m Ill’ at Chrome Nightclub. From there onwards he was asked to play at various venues and events around the City.
G baby enjoys making Hip Hop from a broad point of view mixing commercial Hip Hop, with conscious freestyle rap, and R&B. Within his pursuit he has been adding Trap and Electronic tracks to his list of records, which have been released in the clubs getting good reviews, such as ‘BadaBangBadaBoom’ remix. Locally he enjoys the sounds of Liquid Deep, Mandoza, Reason, Khuli Chana, Nneka, AKA, and HHP.
In November 2011, G baby Da Silva and his brother Sidney performed ‘To the Top’ on SABC 2 for the Rawkus talent competition on Hectic Nine-9. They made it to the finals of the competition and finished runners up. The experience was one of many learning curves Volcanic had to pass along the way. However, perseverance, determination, and shear will not to fail has allowed the group to continue, and get better at doing what they love to do.
G baby Da Silva released his first music video in November 2012, entitled ‘NBK’ on YouTube. The video has done well to establish VolcanicENT as a professional group in the industry, and continues to provide valuable exposure. Since then he has released ‘Cape Town’s Back’ featuring DJ Ready D and ‘New Breed Kings’ album in March 2014, while also appearing on popular national television shows including Shiz Niz & Expresso Show.
G baby Da Silva is also studying towards a diploma in sound engineering at Damelin College to concentrate his technical knowledge and perfect his art. He has been studying for three years in total and is due to finish by the end of 2014. He enjoys skateboarding, chilling with his team, making beats and spending free time with his family.
G baby Da Silva likes to keep he’s style original but other artists he sounds similar to include Bow Wow and Wiz Khalifa. Music collaborations that he has been involved with include Ashley Henriques, Camp Mulla, SlewDada, YoungstaCPT, P Dyno, Masta Lu aka ‘Crazy Lu’ and with more to come in the near future.
