Flint Grey is the latest extension of an ongoing musical conversation between singer/songwriters Dave Leach and Brad Boerger that reaches back across the years to late night, dim-lit, backroom sessions in the Oread Neighborhood of Lawrence, KS; playing their own songs as well as the songs of Bob Dylan, John Prine , The Byrds, Leo Kotkke and many others. Early gigs were at the Lawrence Landmark Off-The-Wall-Hall (now the Bottleneck) with the eclectic band Volunteer as well playing as a duo in the basement of Liberty Hall at the legendary 7th Spirit Club. In 1983 Dave took 1st place and in 1984 Brad and Dave took 1st & 2nd place respectively at the now defunct Kaw Valley Songwriters Contest that was judged those years by Butch Hancock (1983) and Lucinda Williams (1984).
They found their footing, and first successes, when they formed the band Parlor Frogs with fellow songwriter Sue Malloy in the late 1980s. It was during this time they first played with Bassist Kurt Henning, who has joined with them in Flint Grey. During this time period the band was chosen to play the 2nd annual SXSW Festival, afterwords playing several showcases for record labels such as Island Records; played before a crowd of 34,000 as the opening band for Three Dog Night, as well as packed houses at venues such as the Bottleneck; released two well received albums on their own; were
featured on the student radio station KJHK album “Quest for Vinyl” as well as making numerous on air appearances on the station before disbanding in late 1992.
In the mid-nineties Brad wrote material for and toured with the L.A. Ramblers who released three CDs before disbanding in 1998. (continued)
