Karen Reed was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. A member of the renowned musical Reed family, she began her career at the age of four. Karen studied classical accordion under the tutelage of her Aunt, World Accordion Champion, Iona Reed and learned to play the fiddle from her father, Ron Reed. Karen went on to earn numerous titles as fiddle champion.
During her fiddling career, some of the highlights include:
-Grand Master's Finalist
-Maintaining the status of one of Canada's top 10 fiddle champions at the Canadian Open Championships in Shelburne, ON
-12 & Under Canadian Champion
-Women's Open Canadian Champion
-North America Women's Open Champion
-Ontario Open Champion
Sister to Fiddle Champion Don Reed, Karen has cut her own path into musical textures and realms that transcend her 'old time roots'.
Currently, Karen is a much sought after fiddle instructor, performer, fiddle competition judge,and is the director of the Orangeville Fiddle and Step Dance camp. Karen is also a freelance workshop and fiddle camp instructor.
Above all, Karen's passion is performing her music with one specific intention: to touch others lives in a way that is meaningful and unique.
Her most recent project involves her band Crossbow. With some new members, they have discovered a connectedness that brings a richer, more refined depth to their performances and are thrilled to bring this new excitement and energy to you - the audience! Stay tuned............
