The story begins in the basement of an ordinary home in Hudsonville, Michigan. Guitarist/Vocalist Nathan Krikke wanted to expand his acoustic projects into a full band. Turning to an old High School friend, Nathan recruited fellow guitarist Heath Hofstra to assist him in the endeavor. Eventually, after several line up changes, Nathan and Heath were left alone for several months to think about what they wanted. This was when A Red Letter Year was born.
The name “A Red Letter Year” is more than a title; it is a meaning. Before the birth of technological forms of communication, people had to converse through letters. These letters of love, hate, remorse, and joy would travel all over the world into the hands of its anxious recipients. Often times, when someone had an important message to write to a politician or loved one, they would write the letter in red ink. The red ink signified urgency and importance. For that reason, we have the name we do. We stand for passion, creativity, and a common cause of good in the world. It would be since that year A Red Letter Year would get what they want.
So putting all inhibitions aside, Nathan and Heath discarded all their previous works and started from scratch. They wrote better, thought harder, and ate cheesy tortillas until they were proud of their work. After months of work, they discovered drummer Brian Zajac, and bassist Pran Bhavsar to help them in their conquest. Now the next part of the story is up to you; so pack your bags and invite your female friends, because this is an adventure you won’t forget. A Red Letter Year is ready to hit the ground running, and they want to take you (and your mom) with.
