SOPHIST Biography: The philosophical way of thinking, is sometimes simply knowing. Having virtue and wisdom is being truly enlightened. Sophist is quite the unique rock and roll band that originated in Windsor Canada, and incorporates these elements of thought provoking questions through their music and lyrics. When you hear this band for the first time, you immediately draw comparisons to such artists as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, or even Tool, but quite quickly see Sophist as its own entity. An entity that speaks on a personal level, of heartache, love, and truth. As most bands, the lyrical content can spawn from human experience and growth as a person, but once you've learned the Sophist story you come to the realization that this is no ordinary style, and this is no ordinary band. Frontman Egor Suhanov, came to Canada from Russia, where he and lead guitarist Jake Labute found one another instantly, and began this musical journey together at the age of 16. Now in their mid 20's, Sophist is a fine tuned machine that has become a staple in their music scene. Bassist Joel MacLellan and drummer Mike DiNunzio make up the other half of this celestial enigma that is known only as Sophist. With Suhanov's unique operatic, vibrato style of vocals, and LaBute's meaty guitar solo's that become an underlining theme almost jam-like to the music laid down by the rhythm section, it's hard to identify the band in one category or genre. They bleed in and out of style's very naturally, all the while maintaining their signature sound. Sophist recently unleashed their full length album, "Calm Before The Storm" to much anticipation, as previously all that had been released were a few singles that received some amazing feedback, and intrigue. The idea of having an entire album of Sophist material, gave people a greater understanding of what this band is capable of, and laid down a tortuous path sure to excite any and all music aficionado's.
