Earl and Courtney met on a sultry evening in New Orleans in a seedy bar. Neither one of them would have guessed that they would eventually form a rock band, especially by the way Courtney treated Earl with undeserved disdain. The Long Tangles formed in January of 2010 as a drums/keys/vox Indie Rock/Indie Pop/Matrimony Rock duo.
Their first EP, Blueprints & Maps, was recorded at Ice Cream Factory Studio in May 2010 and boasts three songs that float through labors of love, love lost, and love strengthened.
Their first full-length album, SILVER CITY, (also recorded at Ice Cream Factory Studio) was released in January 2011. Pirate Cat Radio (San Francisco) said of the album: “Ornamented with the charm of the piano, sweet, mellifluous synths and utopian vocals, every piece radiates positivity, even on the darker of tracks.” Together, fiery and vigorous drums, rhythmic keyboard bass tones, and layered multi-toned synths form a strong and compelling foundation for alluring lyrics and vocals that are at times dreamy and, at others, resolute and uncompromising.
Their second full-length album of 2011, FINER THINGS, officially releases on October 11, 2011. A step up for The Long Tangles, Finer Things, finds the band recording a fuller, more traditional instrumentation on the album. Building on their foundation of big drums, piano, and synths, Finer Things also incorporates glockenspiel, bass, acoustic guitar, and more. It is a lush collection of catchy piano-driven and synth-powered Matrimony Rock/Indie Pop pearls. Side One Track One (Austin) said of the album: “…the only thing that will disappoint you is the short tracklist.”
