Le Vent du Nord / Bio

Mouth music and musical families. Deep history and playful innovation. Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord knows how to turn the lost past into intensely listenable performances that push their roots in striking global directions. The group is blazing a path that connects Quebecois roots to the wider world, in both arrangements and on stage. They have performed all across Canada, in over 40 US states, and in over 15 European countries, in Scandinavia and more recently, in Oceania and South America (Colombia!).

Having given the La Part du Feu (winner of the 2011 “Roots & Traditional Album of the Year: Group” Juno Award) concert 250 times Le Vent du Nord presents a new show based on the repertoire of Tromper le temps, its 7th album, released in 2012. On Tromper le temps, Le Vent du Nord are pushing their own limits and richly exploring vocal atmospheres, harmonies and textures, while various historical eras are evoked. The show is as much a statement as an observation. On it, four thirty-something singers and multi-instrumentalists lead the listener through 13 timeless stories by returning to their roots and drawing on the past and the present to allow us to glimpse the hopes of tomorrow. These songs are meant to resist the march oftime and evoke often forgotten episodes of Québec’s history with provocative lyrics and poetic descriptions that are destined to endure. A way to fool time...while there is still time. These catchy and engaging tunes surpass all language and cultural barriers, so as the cold weather makes sap rise, let the words and music of Tromper le temps lift your emotions, heart, and soul. Don’t miss them - their performances are a blast and their musicianship unparalleled!
