Manhattan born vocalist Joan Wright has performed popular jazz standards internationally. Born into a theatrical family, Joan was brought up watching from the wings as her father performed at such renowned jazz clubs as the Cotton Club ( with Lena Horn) and the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem and performances on Broadway with the legendary Ethel Waters.
These amazing performers became both role model and inspiration to Joan not only as entertainers, but as women. Their unique qualities fired her imagination in her pursuit to bring her inner spark to her own performing skills.
Joan's early association with jazz great Roy Eldridge led to performances at the St. Regis Hotel, Hotel Americana and the Club "Top Hat" in Canada.
Joan study voice under the direction of famous teacher like Clark McCallen,Danny Smalls, Helen Rudenko and the legendary Roy Eldridge
Joan counts Johnny Mathis as one of her close friends and mentors.
In New York City, Joan has delighted audiences at Birdland, Cafe Gian Luca, Cleopatra's Needle, Freddy's Tatu's, The Jewel Box, Mobay's, Minton's Playhouse, Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar,'Nutt'in But the Blues Night" and many other clubs and venues throughout the Tri-State area.
Joan has appeared and preformed at several venues in Europe like, The D'Eustache and The Village, The Speak Easy w/Rhan Burton Trio in Paris, France.
