The night air was filled with the smell of dirt and sinew. The lanes and trees of the sleepy town seemed to creep slowly inward on The Doctor as he tiptoed along. Wolves howled in the distance, no doubt at the moon that rose full that evening. The house he was looking for loomed over him at the end of a lonely lane. In fact, it was the only house on the lane, and seemed to peer over him disapprovingly, as if telling him to go away. Suddenly, he was engulfed in a beam of light from above, and before he knew it, hands were ushering him inside to a fire-lit room. The flames danced over four faces he could not yet recognize. "Excuse me," he said, his voice trembling, "how may I be of service?" "Oh, Doctor, I've been banging on this guitar all day and it keeps making the strangest sounds. We bought these instruments for almost nothing from a traveling gypsy woman and only this one won't work!" A finger pointed to a vintage blue guitar in front of the fire and arms were thrown up in exasperation. "I think it's haunted!" cried one voice. "I think it's a wolf in disguise!" cried out another. They both high fived on their excellent suggestions. "Well they don't call me Dr. Guitar for nothing," he said, raising one eyebrow as he gracefully threw the strap over his shoulder. "Oh, here's your problem. I wasn't playing it!" And with one arched stroke the guitar finally released the sound it was meant for. And the fingers danced o'er the keys, and sticks pounded endlessly a perfect rhythm, and the voices rose up high to the angels themselves. They played and sang until their voices were hoarse, their fingers throbbed, and their heads were heavy with exhaustion, swooning and slumping to the floor in a mound of flesh and polyrhythms and dreaming the same dream in 3/4 time. A FutureMan came down from the skies and delivered a wolf cub who led them on a journey across space and mind. They met crooks and hookers who played with circus bears, and sought out true love until the end of all time. When they woke, they found the gypsy woman standing over them, holding a wolf cub in her arms. "Thank you for this," she said, nodding gravely. "He will save the world, this wolf of your dreams. This DREAM WOLF."
