Born in Washington, DC but raised in the small town of Brandywine, MD, Alexis Camille Hayward also known as “LeXuS” is a free spirit, and an old soul. Funny to think it all began while sitting in front of a TV, watching Jodeci perform on Showtime at the Apollo, but that’s exactly how It begain. As a child Alexis didn't care for the commerical music being played on local radio. She looked to the past for not only inspiration, but for day to day listening, television, and even literature. So, on that faithful day while watching Showtime, it all began to click. Heavily inspired by the radiance and talent of Jodeci. Group member DeVante Swing, especially grabbed her attention. She loved how he was able to be not only an artist, but be his own producer, writer, and overall visionary. LeXuS has been making music since the age of 8. At that tender age she brought her first digital audio workstation, DAW. She begain playing with the different functions inside the program until everything felt second nature to her – until everything truly felt real. As the years progressed she began more and more to experiment with the different DAWs and sounds not only in the instruments, but the sound of her voice. One of the most important things for her was to create and hone a sound that would be not only classic but be unique and all her own. Another artist she heavily looked up to was Aaliyah. Aaliyah stood out to her for not only her unique and relaxing music but her character and her aura. LeXuS wanted to represent the same thing. She began to write more and more and would record herself to post snippets for listeners on soundcloud to enjoy. At age 15 she joined the Washington Youth Choir. One of her most memorable moments was when they performed in December 2009 for Christmas in Washington. The line-up for that night included the likes of Usher, Mary J Blige, Justin Beiber and more. She most heavily recalls the lights and how it looked and felt on stage while people were watching - it was truly beautiful. Fast forward to 2012 at the tender age of 18, she release her first project titled "Nostalgia" right before she entered college. Rich melodies and old vibe, her debut ep was well received by artists and listeners all over the world. LeXuS' music is a blast from the past and heavily rooted to her inspirations, Rachelle Ferrell, Stevie Wonder, Amel Larrieux, Erykah Badu, DeVante Swing, R Kelly, Aaliyah and more. She also brings a new sound all her own. In 2014, her sophmore project "After Ours" was released to rave reviews. Currently she is developing as an artist even more so than ever while she forfills her dreams to start her own record label. Only God knows what’s in store for LeXuS but im sure you won’t have to wait too long to see how everything unfolds.
