Stephen Devon Edwards (born October 30, 1986), professionally known as Bomb Bass, is a versatile producer who uses powerful baselines, unique sounds and distinct melodies to create influential rhythms. His creativity produces instrumentals in the genres of Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Dubstep, Electronica and Film and Commercial Scores. Bomb Bass strives to be an innovator in the art of music creation and global sound.
Bomb Bass developed his knack for music at an early age. A native of Houston, TX, his rough turbulent childhood led him to seek refuge through playing the trumpet and keyboard in elementary school. His drive for learning didn’t last long as his parents, Darryl and Michelle Edwards, instability and financial troubles pulled him away. From living in shelters, to homes of friends and family, the Edwards family had a hard time adjusting to life. Bomb Bass later found music again in middle school by singing in the church choir as a tenor. At that time the influence of his friend, Ryan Cortez, lead him to discover making beats using a drum machine. Interested to learn another genre, Bomb Bass began researching and opened his eyes to the world of music.
Struggling again as a child to build friends because of constant moving, he crept away from music until the age of 20. As time progressed, Bomb Bass began studying instrumentals of hit songs on the radio. His discussion with a friend regarding his ear for music and listening to background sounds and production styles of hit songs was the turning point in Bomb Bass’ career choice. Not knowing his friend’s background Bomb Bass was then reintroduced to beat making with a gift from his friend. He began making beats every chance he had using the demo version of FL Studios his friend gave him in 2007. His progression was short lived as he found he could not be 100% focused on developing his music career. Bomb Bass was married at the young age of 19; stable with a wife and two children, he became more focused on his family and 9 to 5 job hence, music was once again put on the back burner. Bomb Bass divorced in 2012 due to infidelity; living alone and trying to cope he found his soul through music.
During this moment he was inspired from listening to Bomb The Bass, a British producer and musician. Bomb Bass sampled his name as his professional persona. He released his first instrumental album in 2011, The Love of Music, globally through Reverbnation. Unfortunately, lack of album sale promotions and his learning curve for developing quality sound structures and production hindered Bomb Bass’album sales. His hard work and desire to understand the science of music production kept Bomb Bass driving forward.
Later that year he met music industry engineer and music producer, Jeff willbanks, whose credits include a billboard top 20 hit with Sk8 and collaborations with artists such as Missy Elliot, Wu Tang Clan, Jay-z ( Roc-A-Fella ), Paula Cole, Issac Hayes, Lost Boys, Faith Evans, Carl Thomas, Diddy, Tela, E-40, Aalyiah, Doug E. Fresh, Jam Master J, 50 Cent and more. Jeff gave Bomb Bass guidance on industry production and mastering techniques. He also gave Bomb Bass the best advice of all time, “Learn by doing and keep doing it”. With his new found understanding of music, Bomb Bass landed an international placement with artist, Eugene Jacques Coley, entitled “No Time to Waste”. He also started working with a local artist named Jiggz. The two of them tried several records but settled on the production of the digital single, "Tha Club" featuring Wolf, which was distributed by CD Baby. Bomb Bass also produced "Chicago to Houston”, for Jiggz and Wolf which was featured on mixtape with over downloads and streams.
On Dec. 31, 2013, Bomb Bass and current girlfriend Sparkle, funded and hosted a New Years Eve event in Houston called “The Takeover”. The event was hosted by Bomb Bass and Wankaego and included performances by Travis Porter and Just Brittany. The event also included Houston’s Hip Hop station 97.9 the Box DJ Qui West and guest appearance by Mehgan James. All artist and acts were booked by Bomb Bass under Bomb Bass Productions BBP Events. Bomb Bass is currently working on his mix tape and a project with a Grammy nominated artist and actor. Bomb Bass has connected with several industry companies and A&Rs and continues to perfect his craft for future production placements in the industry.
