Baltimore band Fractal Cat emphasizes classic songwriting, melodic vocals, and a multilayered psychedelic rock sound. Originally the solo studio endeavor of songwriter Miles Gannett, the project evolved into a five-piece rock ensemble. Original songs combine the spirit of early rock ‘n’ roll with elements of soul, classic country, and electronic music. Musical influences include Chuck Berry, early Pink Floyd, and John Coltrane, while lyrical inspirations range from Blake to Buddha.
The band grew out of Gannett’s studio efforts while recording the debut album, The Eye in the Dawn, released October 30, 2012. Inspired by the psychedelic experience and a journey of spiritual awakening, the album pays homage to the great theme albums of the sixties and seventies. The single "Some Angel” was featured on Relix magazine’s 2012 compilation.
Fractal Cat has shared the stage with bands such as The Flying Eyes, Consider the Source, Telesma, and Arbouretum. Playing live, the band modulates between sample-rich re-creations of studio sounds and psychedelic improvisation. Whether showcasing original compositions or re-envisioning rock ‘n’ roll classics, Fractal Cat aims to delight and inspire.
Lovingkind, the follow-up album to The Eye in the Dawn, is coming summer 2014!
