The 65's started in 2009 when Joseph O. Pugsley of Rutherford, NJ, recruited some musician friends he had worked with in other projects to record a collection of songs that he had wanted to release for some time, but had been busy with other projects, mainly the now defunct alt-country band The Dark Brothers (2004-2010). The songs were a mix of aggressive punk influenced pop songs, acoustic tracks, and mid-tempo, straightforward rock n roll.
After much recording and gigging in 2009 and 2010, they released their well received debut album "Strike Hard!" in December 2011 via Dromedary Records. Publications such as Magnet Magazine, Indie Music Cafe, Jersey Beat, and The Aquarian all gave the record very positive and reflective reviews (http://www.reverbnation.com/the65s/press/), and Dagger Zine added: “NJ/NY band the 65’s put out a terrific debut last year called STRIKE HARD (Dromedary Records). If you dig the crunchy sounds of bands like Superchunk or Husker Du then this band will be right up your alley.”
They released an official video for their first single "Walk On Selfishly" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJXXQt05R64) in early 2012 and spent the rest of the year gigging and touring the northeast in support of the album. Now in 2013, as they are working on new material for future releases, they have released a new 4 song EP "I Got You" along with an official video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH0aySPmKFY) via the newly formed Pyrrhic Victory Recordings record label.
The 65's consist of Joseph O. Pugsley, Ryan Struck, Frankie Fender, & John Steele.
