Formed in 2010 by local jam veterans Bobby Mora (bass) and Dane Bono (beats), Funk Pocket came to life as a casual jam session, focusing mostly on obscure 50's and 60's R&B and jazz covers (most so obscure that the band could pass them off as their own).
With a retooling of the lineup, featuring San Francisco/Spokane keyboardist Sam "Chicken Man" Greene, the band quickly focused its energy on improvisational rump shakers, playing to each members strength- Mora's rock solid R&B roots, Bono's syncopated backbeats and African rhythms, and Greene's free-spirited creativity. Comparisons to The Headhunters, Galactic, and Medeski Martin & Wood were almost immediate.
"Given our improvisational nature, the music an evolutional process. And our fans are as much a part of this process as the band," says Bono. The band plans to self release its debut EP this summer.
