History and connectivity run deep in Joe Frank & the World Famous Assistants, both genetically and musically. Joe Frank Carollo, the eponymous leader of the group, is the father of drummer Joey Newman. Joe Frank also provides more than a vestigial link to Southern Rock Royalty, as bass player and singer for the legendary Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, whose early seventies hits included “Don’t Pull Your Love” and “Fallin’ In Love”. Prior to being part of the soft-rock trio, Joe Frank was in the T-Bones, the pop/jam band responsible for the tune “No Matter What Shape Your Stomach’s In” - the trademark theme for Alka Seltzer in the sixties. He was also a member of the Grammy-winning New Christy Minstrels, one of folk music’s most influential groups. A respected and admired singer and musician for decades, his bluesy, authentic voice immediately recognizable, Joe Frank is still rockin’ – even in his seventies!
The World Famous Assistants continue the genetic helix of music. Formed out of the love and joy he’s had playing with his father over the years, drummer Joey Newman (who is not only Joe Frank’s son, but also the grandson of Oscar-winning film composer Lionel Newman of the Hollywood Newman Musical Dynasty) set out to put together a backing band of musicians who bring more than just performing chops to the table but a musical maturity and passion for the craft.
No other band includes six film composers - three of them from film/TV music lineage - two hot shot performers, a veteran rocker and a 70's superstar... So, GET READY TO BOOGIE Y'ALL!
