This old and worn out t-shirt
Is ripped and stained and torn
But woven in its fabric
Are dreams broken and re-born
Sown with moments of triumph
Engraved with memories that I mourn
Its color dull, its threads have holes
But it’s embroidered with my soul

I was wearing this worn out t-shirt
The first time I held your hand
It swam with me in the ocean
Traveled with me to distant lands
It’s with me for luck when I play gigs
I use it to shine my guitar
I wear it when I write lyrics
And it covers all my scars

It’s stained with tears and blood and sweat
It’s laced with laughter and smiles
And woven with kisses I can’t forget
Endured heartache, tragedy and trials
This old and worn out t-shirt
May not look like much to you
But for me it has great meaning
Since it’s a gift I got from you

So I have a special present
Better than all the rest
Wrapped in my worn out t-shirt
It beats inside my chest
The gift is yours for the taking
Its contents rare and true
Open your heart and reach inside
It holds my love for you
