Just as caterpillars on Earth travel far away from their food plants to pupate, so do orbital moths. But in space this means they eject the last of their meals to take up orbit in a belt around the Earth. It is thin, nearly invisible, but there they spin their cocoons or shed their skins and are as safe as possible while they transform into beautiful flyers.
