First time to the Sistine Chapel, I stood and watched the faithful come and go
And even though I knew the mission, still, I hesitated at the door
And I wondered, “Am I worthy?”

Entered in and I crossed the threshold; Never knew I could ever feel so small
And as I passed through your sanctuary, I saw the works of the others on your walls
And I wondered, “Am I worthy?”

Am I right to paint these pictures on your ceiling above?

As I lie here on your platform, I feel the breath as it’s moving through your lips
With a palette full of color, I hold the brush in my trembling fingertips
And I wonder, “Am I worthy?”

Words on paper, oil on canvas, hammered out or intricately sewn
The artist strives to gives us glimpses of the body hidden in the stone
