CROWS OF CASHEL

(Written after my first trip to Ireland, and specifically the castle ruins at the rock of Cashel, conjuring images from all the fairy tales of my youth, only to find that the history was quite different...and then I began to notice that the birds had a better view than I did from way up on top of the walls where the roof used to sit).

This place used to be quite the hangout
When they tried to scare us away
These days we just sit on the ruins
And watch Americans on holiday

(la dee ... etc.)

All the crows of Cashel remember
When the place was filled with music
There were kings and priests and singers
We will listen and try to do outdo them

If you saw what I saw
Ah, but you'll never see what I see
You see ruins but I see the whole town
From on top of the stones that hold me
