dance 'til the dawn
from a twilight in a city
see them talking, holding hands
4 am, they go from bars
and on to parties
there's something they won't understand...

in the morning
wake up early with the same blues
could stay in bed all day....
in offices and factories
there's no time to lose
still, you think of the phone call you should make...

leave it behind
saying "I'll see you tomorrow"
afternoon, it's 5pm
a meal for one
then as evening surely follows
your TV's turned on as a friend

this twilight city
turns its back on the lonely
whispers mockingly "goodbye"
bedsits, apartments
no land of milk and honey
the watcher still looks out on the night....
