a bottle of boons farm, a half pack of smokes
the world was their unending overused joke
before they met behind a gueros on 16th and racine
scavenging through dumpsters, chasing crust punk pipe dreams

well skyler and penny no they never really had a chance
no one told them punk rock don't got no room for romance

at an amebix renuion show two thousand eight
skyler and penny went on their first date
crowd surfin with the ravers, bones and limbs and tattoos
he took her to an after bar, showed her all his stab wounds

and he ate her out for the first time in a bathroom stall
she didn't know what to say so she just said nothing at all

when penny quit college skyler stole what he could
they were squattin' in a beat up flat out near cedric woods
penny made zines filled with cartoons of capitalists as monsters
she spread them round the scene and when they started having concerts

she found out skyler's friends always thought she was a slut
it never came between them cos penny never really cared so much

six sweaty months later, skylers livin' straight edge
penny gets too drunk one night and sleeps with some skinhead
then things really got ugly, the scene started to splinter
i saw them on the rooftop one night fightin' in the winter

she said skyler get your hands off of me please let me go
i'm moving back to the city to find my real friends and smoke us some dro

but when penny got tired of those bangers on the south side
she got a job at gueros, one day found him lying outside
lookin strung out on the pavement, half dead and defeated
she took him in her arms and held his head up so she could feed him

and she said, skyler why are you bleeding from those x's on your hands?
he said, "i'm all out of answers penny, won't you still let me be your man"

so skyler got a job at gueros helpin' with deliveries
penny waited tables, their problems ancient history
two years later skyler stood near the dumpster where they'd met
he'd put a wedding ring inside a pack of her favorite cigarettes

but he never saw those guys comin' up on him from behind
cops found him in the dumpster, two bullet holes between his blue eyes

the scene never really recovered, that was three years ago
as for what happened to penny well now no one really knows
some say she went back to seattle to protest corporate greed
others say she moved back to her mom's in the northeast

whenever i eat at guero's i can't help but think of her a while
i hope wherever she's gone to, she still knows how to smile
