Sitting on the back porch,
Waiting for the rain to start to fall.
Alone in the darkness,
Listening to the sound of it all.

Watching clouds blow cross the sky.
Trying not to wonder why.
Blinded by the lightning’s flash.
Deafened by the thunder’s crash.

And I don’t need you.

A train in the distance,
Rolling down some lonely stretch of track.
Taking someone far away.
But maybe, bringing someone back.

A journey with no end in sight.
Pushing onward in the night.
Without a ticket you can’t ride.
Will you run if you can’t hide?

And I don’t need you.

Music coming from the distance,
But I don’t think that I know the song.
Suddenly a siren screaming,
Somewhere someone has done something wrong.

Who is watching, who will tell?
Who will stand and who will sell?
Can the music calm the beast?
A truth or lies, which hurts the least?
