“ Bluegrass music has a lot of unique qualities. First of all, it is virtually the only genre of music where the fans have direct access to the performers. At every Bluegrass festival, top artists can often be seen jamming with campers and spectators. Second, Bluegrass is all acoustic which means that jam sessions can be held without having to plug in instruments. I look at it this way, Bluegrass is electric WITHOUT plugging in! Also, Bluegrass is generally family-oriented which means you can take children to most festivals and events. Although Bluegrass is a very traditional genre, we must embrace technology and marketing techniques if we are to effectively promote our music. The music recording industry has seen more changes over the past 10 years than in all the previous 50 years. The internet has totally changed the industry. Bluegrass artists and promoters should be familiar with internet sites such as You Tube, ReverbNation, Spotify, SoundCloud, and certainly Facebook. ”

“One of my favorite Gospel Bluegrass songs is "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." This song has been covered by everyone who was anyone in Country, Gospel, and Bluegrass music. Many different versions of this song have been recorded over the years. The original song was written in 1907 by Ada R. Habershon (1861-1918) who was a Christian hymnist. It was famously rearranged by A.P. Carter of the legendary Carter Family and covered by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on their 1972 "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" album. It was the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band who added the E minor chord to give it a more contemporary sound. I like to perform this song at jam sessions and on stage featuring the 1972 tune and the original 1907 lyrics as follow: "There are loved ones in the glory Whose dear forms you often miss. When you close your earthly story, Will you join them in their bliss? CHORUS: Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, Lord, In the sky"”

"McLeansville musician Shane Alan Swaim called the Super G Experiental Residency 'the perfect opportunity at the right time.' A professional in transition who plays guitar an sings at open-mike nights, he pursued the Super G residency to focus on music. Last September, Swaim visited for a few hours each week, performing country, bluegrass, inspirational, rock 'n roll, and children's music. He drew on his passion for music history to create videos on each genre, viewable online at Ustream. Super G vendor All Wireless provided space for live Webcasts. He wrote songs. 'It was the musical experience I have ever had, because of the autonomy, support from Lee and Donovan and the ability to enhance my artistic vision' says Swaim. The residency opened another door: Walton arranged a weekly gig for Swaim at the Purple Yam, a Filipino restaurant in the Fanta City food court. “Shane Alan Swaim was born in Greensboro NC and named after the 1953 motion picture “Shane” starring Alan Ladd. From the moment he was able to talk, he has loved to sing and listen to music. He has written numerous songs and performed cover tunes in church, bluegrass jam sessions, open mic sets, and gigs. He performs several open mic sets each week. Shane joined High Lonesome Strings in May, 2009 after attending the jam at Cardinal Hardware. He is honored to be President of High Lonesome Strings Bluegrass Association and looks forward to performing and working with the local Bluegrass music community. He is currently conducting a Thursday night open jam at Fanta City International Mall on West Market Street in Greensboro. It is his goal to see all local musicians develop their talents and performing skills. He is available for solo or group acoustic and vocal performances.
