Dennis Ford / Bio

MY BIO
Dennis Lee Ford
Born In Arizona
At the age of three years
Moved to California.
When I was a boy
The poor called us poor
We had nothing but love
I never had more.
My Dad was half Indian
Everything he was I hold dear
His Father a full blooded Cherokee
His Grand Parents walked The Trail Of Tears.
As for relatives on my Mothers Side
Most were Musicians people never knew
I have a newspaper clipping of their group
“Kelley’s String Band” dated 1902.
My Grand Mother played guitar
Tuned to an open G
When I was about five years old
She taught the trick to me.
Several years later
I heard that sound again
It was Jimi Page on Led Zeppelin Three
Playing acoustic on Friends.
We left California
The year The Beatles sang Love Me Do
Dad built a house on Linker Mountain
Dover Arkansas Route number two.

When I was eighteen
I wanted to leave the hill
I headed for New York City
But ended up in Fayetteville.
I joined The Leroy Brown Band
And it didn’t take long to learn
Playing in This band
Was more than I deserved.
Soon we toured with The Drifters
Every night we played “On Boardwalk”
The Coasters came next
But of our music there was no talk.
Jimmy Butler and I Joined forces
Playing with Timmy Stelma from Voyager
Then on to Detroit
All hail “Knuckles” The Destroyer.
After three years of that
We couldn’t take more
Moved our little ole band
Down to Austin Texas
Playing clubs that are now blues Lore.
Cindy Leggett and I got married
After moving back To LA
Playing The Sunset Strip
Trying to make it
In my own way.
I’m on my own again
Writing songs and trying to improve
All that I want is to sing, write and play
From my heart to you.

When I was a boy
The poor called us poor
We had nothing but love
I never had more.
