Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, where the blues is a way of life. I moved to the Seattle area as a teenager and found it to be a culture shock. Music was my escape and I haven't slowed down since. I have played in clubs since the age of 17 and on numerous studio projects. I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, Robert Cray and Jimmy Zavala to new a few (and not to mention sitting in with countless musicians and bands) but to date Junior Wells was and still is my biggest influence. I played for him after a show once and he grabbed my harp from me and told me "slow down boy, you tryin to sound like John Mayall or something, you gotta feel the blues"!. He started to play a slow almost moaning melodic note or two and told me "that's how you do it". I have sat in with many bands over the years and have learned from some of the best. "You gotta live it to give it". I have paid my dues when it comes to "living it" and some of it has taken its toll on my life many times. I am happy to say that I am on a new chapter, living and enjoying life in life's terms. No other music reaches into your soul like "the Blues". I play from the heart and bleed it all over the stage. I am available for live performance, studio work and touring. Contact me for more info, Harmonically Yours, Lightnin' Joe
