Lisa Matassa / Bio

“Music is the storytelling of life.”- Lisa Matassa

The success of Lisa Matassa’s most-recent CD, SOMEBODY’S BABY, and a string of high-profile appearances have elevated a once regionally-prominent artist to national acclaim. The Long Island-based songstress has appeared on Hallmark Channel’s MARIE Show, made her debut at the historic Ryman Auditorium and performed during the 2013 CMA Music Festival. This energetic Queen of Long Island Country shared the stage with luminaries like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, George Strait, Blake Shelton and Kid Rock during a sold-out, star-studded tribute to the late, great George Jones at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena last November. Lisa lent her voice to a group effort on "The Love in Your Eyes," and delivered a solo rendition of the Jones classic "Walk Through This World With Me” at Nancy Jones’ request
Matassa’s reach grew throughout the year; she entertained huge crowds at up-state New York's Taste of Country Festival, hosted 650 AM WSM's Guest Artist Series, and became a sought-after entertainer at sporting events nationwide. She made her Major League Baseball debut when she performed the National Anthem at the Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013. Additional performances of “The Star Spangled Banner” quickly followed, from Citifield in Flushing Meadows, NY (New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves) to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the opening ceremony of the 2013 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Final. That event aired globally on-air (The Golf Channel) and online – giving Matassa exposure in over 120 million homes.
Lisa’s hit song and video, "Somebody's Baby," took her to the Top 40 on both the Billboard Indicator and MusicRow charts.

Not bad stats for a woman in a highly-competitive and diverse business. “I’ve been singing my whole life, and I dreamed of becoming a professional musician when I was just eight years old," Lisa recalls. "Music has always been a huge part of my life. I knew a long time ago that this is what I was going to do - no matter what it took.”

While jetting around the country for performances and interviews took up most of her time in 2013, this year Lisa’s focus has shifted a bit. “I’ve been really busy writing songs for my next CD,” she notes. “And I’ve been blessed to do it with some of Nashville’s most talented songwriters.” Among the tunesmiths “woodshedding” with Lisa are Frank Myers (“I Swear,” “I’m Already There,” “You And I,” “Once In A Lifetime”), Grammy Award-nominee Jim Femino ("Just Got Started Lovin' You,” "Hello,” "Die With Your Boots On"), Mike Shimshack (“Giddy On Up,” Laura Bell Bundy), Brent Rader, Garen Gueyikian, Scott Stepakoff, Lauren Adelle and others. Matassa has a strong track record; she co-wrote her most recent single, "I Won't Ask," with her guitarist Colin Smith and Tony Bruno, the producer of her SOMEBODY’S BABY CD

Lisa never imagined the twists and turns her career would take before she arrived at this point. Operatically trained as a child and with a resonantly powerful Pop voice, Lisa recorded two Top-10 Dance singles before she was 20. The songs were huge hits in the U.S. and abroad, earning her performing slots on concerts with acts Taylor Dayne, Brenda K. Starr and TKA.

"I was born in New York but raised in Florida," Lisa explains. "I was exposed to all kinds of music, but my favorites were Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash." Matassa may have capitalized on the Dance craze, but her heart has always been steadfastly Country. With the recent "Rockification" of the Country genre, Lisa realized that she could blend the natural heartfelt soul of Country with her own stylized brand of big city edge. SOMEBODY'S BABY was Lisa’s third genre-focused project, following 2011's ME TIME and 2012's SUNRISE HIGHWAY. The “Me Time” video shot to Number One on CMT’s charts shortly after its release, and her version of the revered, “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),” also topped the chart and remained in the Top Five on CMT’s 2011 holiday chart. It's obvious that Matassa has found the perfect fit for her voice and her personality - and her music is now resonating with fans on a global scale.

“No one would think a girl from Long Island would want to sing Country music,” Lisa laughs, “but I live on an island with almost eight million people, and there are so many Country fans now that the timing just seems right.” Although she’s heard the axiom that you need to be in "Music City" to have a successful career, Lisa views the fact that she lives outside Nashville as an artistic advantage. She loves to cook and spend quality time with her husband and her two teenage children.

As Matassa puts it, “I want people to say, okay, here’s a woman who is not your typical 20-something, recording artist--this woman is actually singing about what happens after you meet your Prince Charming, after you walk through that fairy tale of a relationship and you realize now you’re married and now there are children and now there are bills and things you have to do. I really just want to have songs that people could relate to on a different level.”

Lisa believes that ultimately success comes down to the song. “I don’t think Country fans care where you live or your age,” she explains. “You have to be able to evoke an emotion in a listener so they can say: "wow, she knows how I feel, she's been there too. Oh, and by the way, who is she?'”

Actually, that “who is she” question has now been answered. Lisa is generating hits - bringing great songs and dynamic vocals along as her standard. She's charming everyone who hears her music or meets her in person - from tastemakers to fans ... and she's drawing the attention of industry's movers and shakers as well. She has opened shows for Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, LeAnn Rimes, Thompson Square, Eric Church, Ronnie Dunn and Lee Brice, which has helped to boost her social media numbers.
