Its quite possible when hearing the term Gypsy you might find yourself conjuring up visions of the deep woods, thick, dark, and damp from the moist air. Imagine a caravan of travelers made up of eccentric women and men, all of whom are dressed in free flowing Bohemian garb. They are dancing, singing and playing music, enjoying life and the freedoms of the day. Envision a long wooden table filled with bread, wine and cheese, where generations of family members gather, reminiscing about the past while embracing the moment. The air is filled with an abundance of love and laughter, a mystical blend of living and life. It is evident that the love they have for family is matched only by the commitment to their family history and traditions.
The band chose the name, "The Jipsees" shortening it from "The Jipsee Boys" which was the nickname Marco's uncle Tootie had given to a group of rambunctious young fellas that scurried around his home town. It was supposed they were pretty slick at hustling the town folk in order to have a little pocket change. The stories vary but it was said that every weekend they would sneak into the local pawn shop and bang out songs on the instruments stored in the back room. We have embraced this free spirited approach to our music we swing one minute, then throw in a little jazz or bluegrass the next. You just never know what you'll get with The Jipsees!
