Roy Dawson & the Bootleggers was started on May 21st, 2007 after Roy had an epipheny about what to do with his life. As a chemist/manager in a small company, as well as a volunteer firefighter, the stress of work without reeping the rewards of success was not the life he wanted to lead. He started looking for other artists to begin the project of putting together the best Country Band in the Twin Cities. After a few early changes in personnel, the original band to hit the stage in december of 2007 included Steve Schmidt on Steel Guitar, Clint Reynolds on Drums, John Farber on Bass, and Dave Salo on Guitar. Salo left the group after only two shows and was replaced by Dan Stelter. This core group entered into a Battle of the Bands contest put on by local radio station K102, and won. Giving them the opportunity to play on the main stage at the Xcel Energy Center following the World's Toughest Rodeo. Currently the roster of musicians to join Roy on stage still includes Reynolds, as well as new comers Morgan Hughes on Steel Guitar, Bill Kirvelay on Bass, and John Robeck on Lead Guitar!
