Although only two members of The Womacks actually share blood, they were all raised within 10 miles of one another. They are brother and sister, Noah & Haley Heyman, with longtime friends Cory Webb and Tony Schaffer. In an appropriate turn of events Tony and Haley got engaged and Noah started dating Cory’s sister and what started as “just” a group of friends quickly turned into a real family.
All members of The Womacks live together in the same home and this closeness, aside from 150+ performances a year, has turned their recordings and performances into a tightly woven musical experience. The “Womack” name started as a joke title for a quickly assembled bar band, with a tip of the hat being given to East Nashville’s Americana Singer-Songwriter Tommy Womack. The name stuck, and to be a Womack represents what some fans or “extended family” refer to as “a state of mind”.
Since their debut in 2010 The Womacks have captivated audiences all over the eastern U.S. with their spot on three part vocal harmony, tight musicianship, and neo-classic songwriting. Fan remarks often include phrases like “…I left (the show) feeling inspired…” and “…a breath of fresh air”. Reviewers are saying that “…The Womacks have revived the spirit of vintage rock music and introduced it to the grandchildren of folk and jazz” and “The group’s live performances have the potential to become the stuff of legend”. If one were to look among the audience at a Womack show they’ll see 14 year olds toe-tapping and dancing amidst 30 and 60 year olds, proving that no matter what era of music you grew up with The Womacks have a song for you.
While it’s true that listeners will hear variance in the “Womack sound”, reviewers are saying that the music is still “…distinctly Americana…” and “…a deft mix of American roots, Folk, and Rock music.” In concert the group gives the audience a chance to hear beautiful three part vocal harmony and sincere lyrical insights on life as well as high-energy musical passages reminiscent of the days of vinyl. A live show review said “One never knows quite what to expect, and that makes every musical turn as fresh and thrilling as the next”.
The Womacks will spend the rest of 2013 touring and plans on releasing their 4th studio album sometime in early 2014.
