Hello! I'm Barry Rice from "Years of The Songs" is a one-man-band from a small town near Springfield, Illinois. It all started many years ago, when my cousin and I would write songs together in high school. He was good at the lyric part
I was good at doing the music arrangements. That was in the 1980's we didn't have very good instruments. I had a one-string guitar. He had a snare drum and a toy piano. We taped those songs(still have those tapes). As the years went on we grew up, graduated, got jobs. I kept pursuing music on and off writing songs through the 90's. It was always a dream of mine since I was a small kid hearing the Beatles, the Eagles and many other 70's artists. I grew up listening to Christian music also which influences my sound like Petra and many other artists. Which inspired me to pursue music more seriously in 1998. It was when I entered my song into a song contest that was judged my music professionals. Which helped me tremendously how to write a hit song, not to mention it was very exciting, to leap from a hobby to the next level. I didn't place but kept on the next year, another song at that contest. I learned some more. Through the years I sent songs to music publishers most said no, didn't meet what they needed. one year sent a song to a popular singing show, that was taking songs from armatures. The song wasn't selected. That's the way the music business works right? (paying your dues) I didn't give up I still submit my songs from time to time. Mainly now I do this for the love and passion of creating songs, to touch people and hearing them say it helped them through a tough time. If these songs inspire you to worship God,or mend you from a heartache, or lift you to dance, That's my main goal to write these songs. That's the real reason I do this.
