The Restoration Project / Bio

Tracy Howe Wispelwey, songwriter, composer and theologian, has been touring full time as an independent artist since 2000, playing on university campuses, in prisons, churches, living rooms and touring throughout North, Central and South America. She plays acoustic and electric guitar and was classically trained as a pianist. She is also an electro-acoustic composer and fuses world sounds and rhythms with her songwriting and poetry in live performances. The Restoration Project is Tracy's creative identity under which she has released many albums and toured to many places. Tracy was accompanied by singer/songwriter/composer Aaron Strumpel full time from 2002-2006 when the Restoration Project gained wide recognition and popularity among colleges and universities and was selected among thousands of artists to showcase at the national N.A.C.A. conference. Recognized as a creative peacemaker and leader, she was sought out for collaboration by authors and faith networks. In 2008 she co-produced a gospel project with Brian McLaren called “Songs For a Revolution of Hope” and joined Brian on a 12 city tour in conjunction with the release of his book, "Everything Must Change." Following that tour she did an artist residency with New York Faith and Justice. She has also collaborated with such groups as Amahoro Africa, La Red del Camino and served as the international director of Enter the Worship Circle. In 2009 Tracy stepped away from full time touring to complete a Masters of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. She continued to compose new music and develop her artistic perspective and in April of 2011 she released Hold On To Love, a full-length world-gospel project that is received incredible reviews and is forging a new kind of genre between Taize chant, World Music and congregational singing. As of the summer 2011, Tracy formalized her membership in the Latin American Theological Fellowship and was invited with a small teach to launch an international artist network and produce rich musical and liturgical resources. Tracy completed her M.Div in May of 2012 and is now finding balance between her family, directing the nonprofit Restoration Village, and being a touring artist. Ultimately Tracy seeks to engage leaders and communities working for restoration and justice, and create music that proclaims goodness and hope in a world that is largely condemning.
