Shaon Rahman grew up in a big joint family. Harmonium, table, tanpura & a Hawaiian guitar was his regular game toy since childhood. His uncles & aunties used to practise vocal lessons & mom was a learner Hawaiian guitarist. At the age of 5, Mr. Mujibar, who is now a senior teacher of Classical in Chayanot, was appointed for him as vocal teacher at home. Mujibar sir was his vocal teacher for the next 12 years at a stretch. Classical/ ragas & Nazrul giti were his basic focus, but also concentrated on Tagore, Lalon, Hason Raja, DL Roy, Rajanikant etc.

Happy Akhand and guitar based songs of Azam Khan were his first guitar based Bengali songs with huge influence. These two legends helped him to understand the guitar power. Besides, he was looking for an alternative to harmonium as the supporting instrument for singing. At grade 7, his mother converted her Hawaiian guitar into an acoustic Spanish guitar for him. First, he got some very basic tips from a friend who used to learn guitar formally. Those were the basic notes on guitar and a diagram of the basic G major scale. With a back ground of music lesson, it was not difficult for him to connect between guitar and vocal lesson. It was hard to get a good guitar teacher at a convenient location during late 80s in Dhaka. Therefore, he had no way but to become totally self-educated in guitar. Converted all his vocal lesson i.e. tans / alaps in guitar notes and used to play those on guitar. He collected tons of vdo lessons and books on guitars in order to understand and develop expertise on guitar. Later on he came in touch with one & only all rounder guitarist in BD Selim Haider (ex lead guitarist Feedback) and Akhter Hossain ( ex lead guitarist Happy Touch, Band leader & lead guitarist, Ovation ) and learnt many professional techniques. Besides, Canada he travelled Russia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, USA, UK and played with various musicians/bands to acquire the knowledge of international music and develop musical skills.
