Take contemporary worship and add a splash of pop with a hint of neo-soul and you have the musical melting pot that describes the sound of April Monet. Monet proudly professes to, first and foremost, be a follower of Jesus Christ and by assignment a psalmist, songwriter and guitarist. April learned early that she would be effective in the area of music as she got her start early being taught the principles of music by her father as well as in her school chorus in her hometown of Pennsauken. At the age of 15, she began writing songs that expressed the message of the gospel in a fun, understandable and often witty way. At 19, she began playing the guitar which added color and depth to her sound. She has gained much experience through singing back-up as well as collaborating with many different artists in the Philadelphia music circuit. Monet released her debut album entitled, “This Day” in April of 2011. The project captures much of the excitement and enthusiasm of her bubbly personality and incorporates a very eclectic collection of sounds with every song. April is also the co-founder of a ministry called TruthFocused which is a group of young adults that use creative communication tools to reach share the love of God and spread the Gospel. She believes that music is powerful, but the anointing of God in music is what can change, deliver and saves lives and she states that – “this is what I am after and this is what I apprehend every time I lift my voice to sing”. Look for her to do some great things not only in the Kingdom of God, but in the dying world that our God has called us to reach.
