John grew up watching his father’s professional country music band rehearse in the living room. By age 7 he was well on his way to a career as an accordionist but when the Beatles invaded the country John made an immediate and permanent detour to guitar. Through the years John played guitar and bass in several rock and roll bands but always had his ear tuned closely to early blues and other roots music. He met Karl while both were in the country-bluegrass band, Blue Heart.
Like John, Karl came to the guitar by way of 1960’s rock and roll, but by his late teen years he became enamored with fingerstyle guitar blues and the music of the 1920s and 1930s. In 2008 he began to fulfill a lifelong dream of public music performance. Since then, he has been performing his highly acclaimed “Ragtime Blues” program for seniors groups, civics organizations and others. www.karldentino.com.
Ray joined the Ragtime Relics in early 2013 after a long and successful stint with The Wandering Bards, an eclectic Americana-Gypsy-Funk band based in Northern New Jersey. Ray brings to the band a strong musical pedigree having majored in music at Colgate University. His rich musical vocabulary and artistic sensibilities make him a perfect complement to the band's signature vintage sound. Though he is a classically trained violinist, his instrument of choice with the Ragtime Relics is always fiddle!
Ray also plays fiddle with New Jersey's own new country band, Nikki Briar and the SweetBriar Band.
