Justin Joseph Arrington (Born March 13, 1986), is an American rapper better known by his stage name John Jay. Born and raised in Houston Texas, John Jay is the youngest of 5 children from Hugh, a High school Algebra teacher and Olivia, a Stand up Comedian. He developed a taste for music after witnessing his mother on stage for the first time at the age of 12. he became fascinated with the songs the DJ Played as she walked on and off the stage. He learned more from music by the long road trips the family would take as his mother did gigs in small cities around the country. He was well-educated as a child who kept mostly to himself. His parents exposed him to a diverse array of subjects and taught him to how to express his creativity which was highly encouraged in his household, mostly through humor.
In 2002 Jay began writing rhymes upon hearing Nas's (1994 album Illmatic), while attending Alief Hastings High school. Not taking music serious, the music influence quickly began to fade away and he began to focus on basketball which landed him a scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University in the fall of 2004. after one semester he transferred and bounced around from one junior college to another until eventually he settled at Prairie View A&M University where he received his Bachelors degree in Mass Communication in May 2010. In 2006 after hearing Lupe Fiasco's "Food and liquor" album, he immediately resumed his interest in music. Impressed by the creativity he began mimicking his style until he broke off into his own. While attending Prairie View he met his business partner and manager James Motton. The two became friends due to their shared interest in music. Shortly After Graduation John Jay moved to Atlanta, to purse a career in television production and broadcasting at CNN where he currently resides.
