Derrick Cunningham Sr., is an up and coming Sacramento artist under the moniker Dirk Dig. Growing up in the impoverished neighborhoods of Sacramento was not an easy feat for Dirk Dig. However, coming from a large family, he is grateful and as a result has strong family values. His 3 kids are most important and constantly thanks God for his greatest creations. Derrick is a versatile artist who has tried his hand at producing, and creating beats and videos (Digspro@youtube.com), but his true love is creating music. He prides himself on not fabricating his lyrics but painting a picture of his reality. The trials and tribulations of growing up under privileged, how becoming a father for the first time opened his eyes to a better life, and what he foresees in the future. He may not always paint a pretty picture but it's his truth. Aaron Carnes, from the Sacramento News and Review, wrote this about his music,"His other tunes have a similar vibe, sticking close to the laid-back West Coast sound of other rappers like Mac Dre, Too Short and E-40."
Summer 2015, Dirk Dig will be dropping his sophomore album Sacramento King, which features collaborations with Hennessy, Zaylee Bussin, and Maysah of Cali Bear Gang, just to name a few. And hit single commissioned by the Alabama Golden Gloves Champion, Cain Graves, titled 12 Rounds (produced by Verb). Derrick teamed up with other local artist Jeffrey Harris (Hennessy) to create the group Kali Boyz, their EP will be released early 2016. Dirk Dig has had an opportunity to open up for Brutha Lynch Hung and continues to perform regularly throughout the region. Derrick's tenacious drive coupled with his easy going personality, attract a diverse fan base as he continues to let his passion elevate his music.
