In the overly competitive music business where many are scratching and clawing their way to find their fifteen minutes of fame even at the cost of humiliation via the boob tube, there are still, thankfully, the select few amabassadors of rock who take the time and effort to craft a great collection of songs in the hopes of a lasting and meaningful musical career. At a time when labels are disentigrating and the everchanging landscape of the business creates an environment for short attention spans and even shorter musical careers, there are still those that dream and fight to restore integrity. Enter, Viasava.
Viasava is a hard rocking four-piece out of Atlanta, Georgia that are no strangers to the trials and cutthroat nature of the music business, and together, somehow, they are still here. Alex Dorminy, drums, and Gogi Randhawa, guitars/backing vocals, began Viasava in October of 2010 - thirty minutes after their previous band, Dear Enemy, disintegrated. Dear Enemy had experienced some moderate success hitting the streets with their grassroots approach and building a diehard following while touring and sharing the stage with the likes of Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Taproot, Dark New Day, Hurt and more.
During that time, Dear Enemy played multiple shows with New Era Project which featured a larger-than-life voiced frontman, Dustin Lowery. Dustin is the brother of bassist Corey Lowery (Stuck Mojo, Steremud, Dark new Day) and Clint Lowery (Sevendust, Korn, Call Me No One). Also experiencing the demise of his own band, Dustin was eager to see what possibilities lied ahead. Thus, began the beginnings of what is now Viasava.
For the next year or so the three wrote and recorded about thirty demos in their rehearsal space. Working towards crafting a sound all their own, the three chose 12 songs that would makeup the debut album, "One Year Down," A dynamically diverse collection of songs that captures the unique sound that only Viasava could provide. After entering the studio in December of 2011 with Grammy award-winning engineer, Robert Hannon (Outkast, Matchbox 20, Ludacris), The three members of Viasava added long-time friend, John Ballard, on bass. The band has been on a constant climb of industry buzz and fan acquisition ever since.
"One Year Down" is a masterful collection of songs that ranges from the hard rocking anthemic grooves of "New Frontier" to the heartfelt emotion-laden acoustic ballad "Chasing Footprints" with every logical step in between. The songs are catchy, relatable and accessible without succumbing to the seemingly formulaic standards of many emerging acts of today. And as if that wasn't enough, the band produced the album themselves.
Take a listen for yourself. Viasava is poised to take the rock world by storm and they are not afraid to find out what lies ahead in this ever changing new frontier.
