Born into a musical family, Jonathan Tea began learning piano at age 7 and started songwriting shortly after. At age 8, he began playing trumpet. By age 13, he had picked up guitar and bass. By the time he graduated high school he had completed his first musical score for a full wind orchestra. He studied jazz and composed for big bands while in college at the renowned music school, University of North Texas. He learned to play drum kit, violin, cello, upright bass, and countless ethnic instruments while continuing to compose and perform music with various bands around campus.
Approaching music academically however, was stifling for Jonathan, and when he graduated from the rigorous music program at North Texas, he closed his guitar case, slipped it under the bed, and wouldn't open it again for almost 10 years.
In search of new sounds and new textures, the 1990's found Jonathan composing underground electronic music and DJing under the name Solarvibe, headlining several events and ultimately becoming resident DJ at Spy Bar in Cleveland, OH where he debuted his original underground electronic tracks "Listen Up" and "Teletubbies on Acid" that went on to acheive underground success.
Eventually, Jonathan returned to his love of the guitar and the joy of creating infectious melodies with smart lyrics, diving headlong into becoming the very best singer songwriter he could be, something he continues to pursue and refine with dedication and passion.
These days, Jonathan regularly plays shows around the northeast and makes frequent trips south eventually landing in Nashville, TN for a run of shows every other month. He also hosts a monthly songwriter's night in New York City where he and a guest trade songs and stories in an intimate listening room. Jonathan is constantly writing and recording new music and is currently working on his first full length album due in Summer 2014.
