Emcee/Songwriter/Producer Justin Thomas aka Jskillz began pursuing his music career in 2005 as a part of a rap and R&B group he founded called Midtown Underground. The members of Midtown Underground included Aaron Ash (Untamed), Alfred Scott (Alscott), Cortez Lee-Rogan (Crealot), Rayes Wilson (Ray-G) and Taurean Reid ( F.A.M.E.). The group formed during his sophomore year at Davenport North High School in Davenport, Iowa. Before the formation of Midtown Underground, Jskillz started his foray into rap free styling with friends. He was encouraged by their positive response to try his hand at writing and producing his own material. Once Jskillz and Crealot met, they began to collaborate and brought the other members of the group together to found Midtown Underground. The group signed with Ensemble Records that same year. The group’s most popular record was "This Is Midtown". The group released five singles and a mixtape before eventually separating and venturing off into solo projects.
As a solo artist, since 2006, Jskillz has released several mixtapes and singles, including the popular hit “Gorgeous”. In early 2011, after producing the mixtape, "Ahead of My Time", Jskillz decided it was time to take his career to the next level by releasing an album on the independent label, M.T.U. REC. (Must Think Unique Records). Jskillz debut album, "Nothing to Lose", was released December 27, 2011 to rave reviews. Indie Music Reviewer magazine gave the album four out of five stars. The attention from the first single, “The Sideline”, garnered Jskillz’s first international feature story in the magazine Mr. Dreamz. The music video for the single "A Million Ways To Love You", released on November 23rd, 2012, was heavily touted in the blogosphere. Other popular hits on the album were “Let’s Get It", "Remind Me", "Middle Finger", "Want Me Back" and "No Deposit".
On October 22, 2012, Jskillz released a collaboration EP entitled "Great Minds Think Alike" with Jarrod Connor (J.C.) that was sponsored on Datpiff. The EP received a bronze award for gaining over 25,000 downloads in four weeks. "Great Minds Think Alike" reached astounding 32,000 downloads in five weeks.
In 2013, Jskillz debuted his second EP, "Man in the Mirror", on March 30th. The video from the the first single, "Mirror, Mirror", has gone viral. Jskillz is currently out promoting the project.
