Alien Knife Fight are a creative duo based in the small junction town of Creedmoor, Texas (population 202). They hone their sound, producing new material in their home studio at all hours with drums, 2-string basses, vintage synthesizers, and unconventional methods. Commercial viability, popularity, tradition, these are of no concern here. Alien Knife Fight are a band of bassists who happen to play other instruments, making music that THEY want to hear.
A fine art graduate of Pennsylvania College Of Art, Monique Ortiz brought her unflinching, gritty northern sound to Austin after nearly 15 years of collaborating with some of Boston's most notable players ( A.K.A.C.O.D. with Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley and Binary System drummer Larry Dersch. And Bourbon Princess with original Morphine drummer Jerome Deupree, guitarist Jim Moran, and Either/Orchestra band leader and saxophonist Russ Gershon). After a year in Austin she met producer/engineer/bassist and drummer Michael Howard. The two began creating tom-heavy, bass-driven music that is as much a nod to the Low Rock trio Morphine, as it is to punk innovators Wire, and Joy Division. After a year of recording and numerous duo performances, Mike and Monique's stable of musicians has grown, including Dead Kenny G's bassist/saxophonist Brad Houser, bassist/multi instrumentalist, John Aymong, and Ghostmember saxophonist Justin Bernard Williams.
The name Alien Knife Fight was a random choice of words, loosely based in the band's interest in cult films, U.F.Ology, and the paranormal.
A.K.F. have recently independently released a 5-song EP, which begins with "Keep Talking", a straight-up rock number, and progressively takes the listener into their experimental realm, ending with the ominous, improvised "Amygdala". The EP is available on their bandcamp page at http://alienknifefight.bandcamp.com, and is available on all the usual online outlets. They are currently working on a new video and recording new material, with the hopes of touring in fall of 2014.
