The Lonesome Fugitive Band / Bio

The Lonesome Fugitive Band consists of a 5 piece group featuring 4 vocalists along with Lead Guitar, Steel Guitar, Bass and Drums. Our name comes from the famous Merle Haggard song "I'm A Lonesome Fugitive"

Our group has been playing in Michigan for the last 20 + years. While we certainly perform a wide variety of tunes, we pride ourselves in keeping with the sounds of traditional Honky Tonk Country music. Over the years we have had some different and very talented band members. Now in "semi retirement" we play a select few dates, mostly for Casinos. We have reunited and now work with 4 of the original 5 band members :

Founding member Scott Wikle is our lead vocalist and front man. He is known for never using lyric sheets to read words to songs and has over 400 tunes in his repertoire. Scott is often called “Mr. Request Man” His biggest influences are Merle Haggard, George Jones, Buck Owens, Conway Twitty and Ray Price.

On lead guitar and vocals is John Kopchia. Considered by his peers as one of the top musicians in the area, he is also a member of the Northern Michigan Blues Society Hall of Fame. He has played in Michigan for over 30 years and has been with Lonesome Fugitive since it formed.

Our drummer is a "next generation" of Fugitives... Tristan Wikle. Tristan is Scott Wikle's son, and at only 19 years old is a very accomplished and polished musician. He has played in his high school marching and jazz band. He has been playing drums since the age of 10 and while he also enjoys playing the music of his generation, he grew up listening to classic country and going to concerts with his dad. Tristan brings alot of energy to the group and keeps us older guys feeling young !

Bill Charbonneau plays steel guitar and lead guitar on select tunes. Bill comes from a family that is rich in musical talent. For many years, Bill, along with his wife and 2 brothers, traveled as the group "Loose Change" He is highly regarded as one of the best Country players in the area.

Martin Hanna is our bassist. He is a veteran Michigan musician with an instantly recognizable style. With an outstanding baritone voice, Marty brings powerhouse vocals and blends his voice with the other guys to make that unmistakable Fugitive harmony style.

Together we have played hundreds of venues in the Michigan area over the years. We have also played at theaters and opry's across the Midwest including Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Missouri. We have opened for National acts, and always kept the crowd singing dancing and clapping along. We boast the largest catalog of songs and continue to have a large following whenever we get together.

Of the wide selection of songs in our set lists, we include songs by Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Ray Price, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr. just to name a few !
