True to who they are, true to the art form; The Tru! The many influences jump right out at you when hearing the sounds of The Tru. This fusion of sweet vocals from Mic Gaines and clever, melodic instrumentation by Daniel Truica creates a sound that heralds to music-makers before them and paves the way for innovation for song-writers to come. Together, the group makes the kind of songs that span generations both forwards and backwards. Conceptualized in the Jersey Shores, The Tru plays heavily on the area’s Rock/Pop culture to create a compilation of original songs, but refuses to stay locked into specific genres, infusing its own style of Soulful vibes.
Currently in the studio, producing songs for their first album, The Tru selected the best of the dozens of songs the band wrote in just a short period of collaboration. Anticipating the release of its first single, you can catch The Tru playing in and around the Jersey Shore. The band is anxious to spread its sound to as many ears across the globe as possible.
Lyrical impressions thoughtfully lay out on the melodic streams of Mic’s rich tones. This singer/songwriter’s musical beginnings start with training amongst ten other talented singers, brothers and sisters, directed and molded by the group’s director, mother. Later, he sang lead in church choirs as far away as the Iraqi war zone. Influences run a wide range and varied genres from Bon Jovi to Stevie Wonder; Maxwell to U-2; Mint Condition to the Beatles. “I want to make music that stands the test of time, and try to incorporate what I believe will have people humming lines from The Tru even when they don’t realize it.”
If Mic is the right shoe, then Dan is the left. Classically trained in piano, and a self-taught guitarist, Dan brings an impressive knack for creating pieces of music that naturally wrap around Mic’s words and melodies to create a sound only known to The Tru. “My approach to song-writing is pretty simple. I just make music that I like.” The music that Dan “likes” comes from the greats, of course, but also from his personal favorites such as The Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, and Coldplay.
The Tru concentrates on “the song,” not a style. Mic says “I want each song to breathe and live its own life and be its own individual much like people and build meaningful relationships with listeners in whatever manner the two of them decide works,” a statement you will see is evident once you hear the many styles, tempos, and flavors of music the pair created. True to themselves, True to the art form; The Tru.
