Kelly grew up just outside of Salem, Oregon and has been playing music in various forms and venues for 26 years. She began with classical violin, focusing heavily on the Baroque period and receiving instruction from several local professional musicians and teachers throughout her formative years earning awards from the Federated Teachers adjudication program and youth competitions. Throughout this time, she enjoyed playing with the Salem Youth Symphony orchestras and quartet, and occasionally the Salem Chamber Orchestra. When she wasn't busy maintaining a fairly rigid practice and recital schedule, Kelly could often be found listening to her dad's vinyl LPs for hours, enjoying classic rock and country
In her teens, she discovered a love of folk styles, and her interest spread into traditional sounds, exploring bluegrass and Celtic genres. She joined a bluegrass band and began playing various venues and festivals throughout the Pacific NW, including the popular bluegrass festival, Wintergrass in Washington. During this time, she and her fellow bandmates had the honor of playing for the Women in Bluegrass show at the International Bluegrass Music Association festival in Louisville, Kentucky.
Kelly currently performs Celtic music with Jug of Punch, adding her fiddle and vocals to their sound, while collaborating on music projects with local talent in her spare time. She takes a great interest in the fusion of musical styles, trying to find creative ways to blend genres and sounds with a fun and innovative approach. While maintaining a solid technical background, she enjoys breaking though musical boundaries through improvisation and an open mind.
