TanGenT is a ROCK band that while still producing music today, gigged in and around London during the late 1980's.
Joe Wallis was a founder member of Tangent. During the early to mid eighties Joe was listening and developing an ideal, from a number of influential sources, that included film sound tracks, electronic, progressive and folk music. These were in addition to the more usual rock/metal bands, that might be expected from listening to Tangent's music.
Responsible for guitars and most lyrics, it comes as somewhat bizarre, that Joe's first owned instrument, was a harmonica, although some painful violin lessons were taken as a child.
Joe Wallis, along with Sharon Pilka and Karl Poulton started writing music in 1986. Tangent were named around that time by its three founder members. When Karl left, Joe Wallis, who had no intentions of giving up or stealing lyrics, decided to take lyric writing as part of a complete change for Tangent. That role continued for almost all the future Tangent tracks, although there was never a rule who should do what in the band.
Much of the band's styling, logos and direction was left to Joe and even the details of copyright were dealt with between Joe and Sharon, during the demo to gig stages that all working bands go through.
Joe still writes music and plays the guitar, amongst other interests. Music creation is much easier these days of PODs, ZOOMs, sequencers and digital recording.
A Londoner for most of his life, Joe now lives in Bedfordshire England... still supporting the idea of "British Metal".
Most of the music and lyrics were created by Joe Wallis but the main members of the band are as follows...
Joe Wallis...............Guitars - Vocals and Lyrics
Sharon Pilka............Keyboards/Lyrics (Tightrope)
Karl Poulton............Vocals/Lyrics (Never gigged with full band but was party to its creation)
Jamie Joyce.............Bass Guitar
Greg Lawson...........Vocals/Lyrics (They'll Find You)
TanGenT© still exists as a graphic design and picture site, as well as continuing the music with..
"Virtual Metal". V Metal© tracks made using real guitar and todays technologies...
Joe is still producing other types of music including ochestral type scores using a variety of tools and Cubase.
