A remote dusty town in the middle of the Central Australian desert is as likely a place as any for a gypsy Scotsman to put down the bottle find a voice, hone his craft and launch a musical career. Since arriving in Alice, Colin has found himself, written original songs and has performed extensively throughout the Northern Territory and interstate. He’s fast building a reputation as a gifted songwriter and commanding performer, having been likened to Cat Stevens and Otis Redding creating a sound that he has labelled as “folk Soul”.
Colin has travelled a long way, physically and metaphorically, from the small horizons of his hometown to the limitless horizons of the red centre. Since recording and launching his 4 track EP from his living room and in Melbourne in 2012 he has performed to a sold-out audience’s , signed a 3year publishing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing, has toured interstate, most recently to Darwin to showcase his music to a top end audience where from this he secured performances at the 2013 Darwin Festival. He has shared the stage with artists like award winning Alice Springs mob Catch the Fly, hip hop roots Radical Son, Darwin duo Sieta and Australian country icons Casey and Bill Chambers. Along with Bill Chambers he co-produced desert Diva Jacinta Price’s Debut album “Dry River “which will include the co written song Night and Day that he got to perform along with Jacinta Price in front of finalist and his peers at the 2013s NT song of the year where he too was a finalist in the folk category for the second year running. At this year’s Telstra Road to Discovery Colin won his NT Heat and made it to the top 16 of the competition. Colin is also an Ambassador for RADD “recording artist’s actors and athletes against drink driving” and part of this year’s TV and radio Sober Bob campaign.
Looking to the future in January Colin will be in travelling to Tamworth then to Canberra to support Jacinta Price who will be showcasing her New Album Dry River. Colin also received a tailored mentorship from Footstomp Music this year and with Graham Ashton (Asho) will create a plan to start working on a new album where he will be travelling to Brisbane at the end of January to perform, co-write and work with other musicians from around the country to develop this album. He is looking forward to working with NT Song of the year winner Dave Crowe on a couple of projects including co-writing some new works for future albums. He is in talks with studios here in Australia as well as in Chicago with Grammy Award winning producer and engineer Chris Steinmetz. Colin is looking forward to the festival season where he will be taking part in some of Australia’s prestigious festivals in 2014 as well as making and working with new friends to move and inspires those who listen to his story.
