Throw Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Moby, The Crystal Method, The Prodigy, and a pinch of Bassnectar in a blender, and you've got MANIC FOCUS.
Manic Focus is the musical vision of John A. McCarten (commonly known amongst friends as JmaC), a Minneapolis music producer. Having played classical piano since the age of 6, JmaC was introduced to electronic music production at the age of 13 when his dad bought him his first synthesizer.
After making electronic music for 3 years, JmaC delved into the world Hip-Hop, making beats on an Akai MPC1000 and recording various artists.
He moved to Chicago and attended DePaul University for 2 years, and then at the age of 20 returned to the Twin Cities. His music was energized with a new energy and focus, stepping up to the mic himself, writing and recording numerous sample-free tracks that were never officially released.
JmaC took a break from music to follow his second passion, magic. He's been into sleight-of-hand almost as long as music, performing miracles with any ordinary deck of cards.
Returning to the University of Minnesota, JmaC temporarily strayed from his musical passion due to a lack of funding to purchase new equipment. His friends believed in his musical abilities, and pitched in to help him buy new equipment. In the Fall of 2010, he significantly upgraded his studio and has gotten back into solo, electronic music production.
