Rebel Hero is a three piece Pop/Alternative Rock band from Toronto. Featuring singer/songwriter and lead guitarist Tyson Froese, bassist and vocalistJustin Faragher, and drummer Alex Van Briggle.
“It began as the Tyson Froese project. I was playing in Waxmen and we decided to take a creative hiatus for a while. They continued on with another guitar player and I had a chance to start my own band that I could sing leads in. Its always been a passion of mine, to sing. I had played with Chilliwack at the Sound Academy and was asked to open for Bobby Keys of the Rolling Stones, so I contacted my good friend Justin Faragher (Desire) and we put together a band. I wrote some new songs, and shortly after Mike Turner (OLP) got involved and produced some of our songs. Rebel Hero was officially a band at that point.” Tyson Froese
Froese recorded a cover of “Baby Blue” by Chilliwack, a tribute to his late father Howard Froese, one of the band’s former members. The song caught the attention of Bill Henderson, the iconic Canadian band’s frontman, and asked Froese to perform with the band. With that, the young guitarist found himself onstage for Chilliwack’s 40th anniversary concert in Vancouver, playing with veritable music legends, and impressing musicians and fans alike with his guitar prowess. Shortly after, Froese was asked to open for Bobby Keys of the Rolling Stones at the Sound Academy gig. It was that fateful night that Rebel Hero was born. Froese and Faragher and original drummer Tom Paulovitz delivered a tight, powerful show to hundreds of Keys fans, and gathered hundreds of their own in the process.
Rebel Hero is a musical force to be reckoned with. Their sound is energetic, raw, and powerful, with moments of blistering guitar driven rock, mixed with heartfelt chorus's and strong lyrical messages. Tyson and Justin blend two unique vocals styles into artful harmonies, layered with catchy melodies and attention grabbing hooks. It’s a sound that translates wonderfully recorded, and is even better when heard live. Alex Van Briggle brings something special to the band with his tight grooves and impressive chops and together the three are tight as a drum, with crowd engaging performaces that have people dancing and singing along to their music.
With widespread influences, from Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots to City and Colour and Jason Mraz, and true musical talent, Rebel Hero has created a sound and style that has true universal appeal.
Rebel Hero has just recently released their self-titled album. It was produced by Mike Turner (of Our Lady Peace) at The Pocket Studios in Toronto. The first single “Superstar Junki” has caught the attention of critics at the recent Canadian Music Festival, and is currently being worked to radio.
